UNC clinches national title
The University of North Carolina defeated Michigan State 89-72 Monday night in Detroit.
With the win, the Tar Heels claimed their fifth national championship title.
UNC soared past Michigan State in December 98-63, and the Spartans were unable to answer for a second time.
"I felt like it was fitting for us to do what this group just accomplished," said UNC head coach Roy Williams.
The coaches unanimously voted the Tar Heels were unanimously voted as the No. 1 team in the final regular-season coaches' poll. This is the first time since 1982 that UNC started and finished its season as a No. 1 seed. Michael Jordan led the '82 team.
