Villanova guard to enter NBA Draft
Junior point guard Scottie Reynolds declared Tuesday he would enter the NBA draft. Reynolds said he will not hire an agent, so he may still decided to return to Villanova for his senior season.
Reynolds, a former Big East freshman of the year, has twice scored 40 or more points in a game. If he returns, Reynolds will anchor a lineup that includes one of the top recruiting classes in basketball. If not, Villanova will lose a strong team leader, one who has scored 1,620 points in his last three years with the Wildcats.
The 6-foot-2 guard is projected as a second-round pick by most mock draft boards, but Reynolds believes he can improve his position at NBA workouts.
"Scottie and I have decided that it would be smart for him to experience NBA workouts at this time," said head coach Jay Wright. "This will enable him to assess where he fits in the draft process this year and give him a better understanding of what it takes to play at that level."
Reynolds said he was in a win-win situation. "If I come back, it's definitely going to be a blessing. I'm going to embrace it tremendously, and I know what kind of leader I have to be at Villanova."

New NCAA rule keeps coaches away from AAU
The NCAA instituted a new rule in which coaches are no longer able to watch players at AAU events in April.
It will result in coaches having to now take someone else's word, making determinations off watching videotape and might lead to an increase in transfers. Potential recruits will still be able to play at these tournaments, but coaches will not get see them.
It was done with the intention to try and limit the amount of school days missed by student-athletes and also to attempt to shift the "power" back from the AAU coaches to the high school coaches.
"It's very difficult now," said coach Sean Miller, who went from Xavier to Arizona this offseason. "Everybody knows the most important way to build a program is to bring in the right players. It's hard when we don't have the opportunity to see them."
For now, coaches are just trying to deal with the situation in April, and hoping that the NCAA will get rid of the ban soon.

Former Duke guard considers QB position at Michigan
Former Duke basketball player Greg Paulus will compete for the starting quarterback job this fall at the University of Michigan.
Paulus, a former All-American quarterback in high school, visited Michigan's final practice of the spring Tuesday in Ann Arbor. Paulus is solely interested in playing quarterback.
Since Paulus did not redshirt for the basketball team, he has one year of eligibility remaining in another sport. He can go to graduate school elsewhere and compete immediately.
"The chance to compete for a starting job is important," Paulus said. "With me only having an opportunity to play for one year, the chance and the opportunity to compete at a high level is important. There is an opportunity to do that at Michigan."
The four-year point guard is scheduled to graduate from Duke in June. Paulus is still gathering information about Michigan and other schools, as well as the possibility of working out for more NFL teams. If he chooses the college route, a school's graduate program will be a major factor in his decision.

Kansas keeps Collins, Aldrich around for 09-10 season
Kansas stars Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich announced Monday night that they would both be returning for the 2009-10 season.

Less than a week since taking a new job at Arizona, head coach Sean Miller received a commitment from top-rated recruit.

Facebook fan site deemed violation
A North Carolina State freshman was warned by his school's compliance director to remove his fan site from the popular social networking site Facebook. The Facebook group, which was called "John Wall PLEASE come to NC STATE!!!!" was ruled as a potential violation of recruiting rules.
Student Taylor Moseley received a cease and desist letter from the N.C. State compliance directory, Michelle Lee, which warned him of "further action" if he failed to comply. This brings into question student's First Amendment rights for expressing an opinion.
The NCAA says that sites such as these attempt to influence recruits' decisions.
"I think nationally the NCAA needs to address further Facebook and how these groups play a part in recruiting," Lee said. "Is it realistic for us to be able to monitor them? What harm is a group like this causing? But as the legislation stands right now, this is the position we have to take."
Erik Christianson of the NCAA dismissed the free speech argument, saying courts have upheld the NCAA's right to set recruiting rules for members.

The University of North Carolina defeated Michigan State 89-72 Monday night in Detroit.
With the win, the Tar Heels claimed their fifth national championship title.
UNC soared past Michigan State in December 98-63, and the Spartans were unable to answer for a second time.
"I felt like it was fitting for us to do what this group just accomplished," said UNC head coach Roy Williams.
The coaches unanimously voted the Tar Heels were unanimously voted as the No. 1 team in the final regular-season coaches' poll. This is the first time since 1982 that UNC started and finished its season as a No. 1 seed. Michael Jordan led the '82 team.

UNC looks for another national title
The University of North Carolina is looking for a chance to win a national title as they make their Final Four appearance this weekend.
Specifically, a win would diminish some of the criticism senior standout player Tyler Hansbrough has faced since announcing last season he would put off the NBA and return for his senior season.
The game this weekend marks his last opportunity to prove the critics wrong.
"I feel like there's a lot of pressure just because a lot of people would say it would be a failure to come back if you didn't win a national championship," Hansbrough said. "But I didn't come back just to win a national championship."

No. 2 Oklahoma falls to Texas; Griffin out with concussion
The Longhorns stunned the Sooners in Austin, Texas, Saturday 73-68.
The Sooners' Blake Griffin left the game early in the first half and didn't return after he suffered a concussion. He collided with Texas center (Griffin's MRI results were clear, but it is unknown whether he will return for Monday's game against Kansas.) With Griffin sitting on the bench for the remainder of the game, the Sooners were unable to hold on as Texas' A.J. Abrams put up 23 points. Abrams hit 16 in the last eight minutes of the game.
This is only the second loss for the Sooners this season, and it ends their 13-game winning streak.
"I feel like with Blake playing it would have been a different game and I feel like with him we would have won," said Oklahoma's freshman guard Willie Warren.
This loss might erase any chance for Oklahoma to finish the regular season with their first No. 1 ranking since 1990.

No. 3 UNC defeats North Carolina State
The University of North Carolina Tar Heels defeated rivals North Carolina State 89-80 Wednesday night in Chapel Hill, N.C.
With the win, UNC extended its winning streak to 10 games, and N.C. State has now lost 12 of 14 conference road games.
Despite the impressive offensive play, head coach Roy Williams was disappointed with UNC's defense. The team recognizes that in order to play well in NCAA tournament, they have to improve the defense.
"That's one of the first things he said to us, that they shot 64 percent," said junior guard Wayne Ellington. "They shot way too high a percentage on us. We outscored them. But when we're getting into games where teams are just as gifted offensively and can score right with us, we're not going to win those games. We've got to get teams' percentages down."
UNC leads the ACC with a 24-2 overall record.

No. 21 Illinois knocks off No. 13 Purdue
The Illini defeated the Boilmakers Saturday night 66-48 in Champaign, Ill. Purdue, who played without star forward Robbie Hummel, was held to season lows in scoring, shooting percentage and three-point shooting.

Sophomore forward Mike Davis helped lead the Illini to victory with his 14 points and career-high 16 rebounds. Weber said Davis had been fighting tonsillitis and a case of Bell's palsy, a temporary facial paralysis, but his sickness didn't stop him from helping his team pullout an upset. The Illini never trailed.
