No. 1 bites the dust; Pitt falls to Providence
Unranked Providence upset No. 1 Pittsburgh 81-73 Tuesday night in Providence, R.I.
A big win for Providence, This is the Friars first win over a No. 1 team in 33 years, and only the second-ever win over a top-ranked team. They also snapped an eight-game losing streak.
Pitt moved into the No. 1 spot for the second time this season after they defeated UConn last week. This marks the sixth time in the past eight weeks that a No. 1 team has been knocked off.
"It was just terrible. We didn't play as us," said Pitt forward DeJuan Blair, "They deserved [it]. We gave them that game."
Providence head coach Keno Davis said he hopes this win, a part of judgement week, will help their chances of making it into the NCAA tournament.
